With fun games integrated in the lacrosse practice, young players will have the opportunity to not just improve their basic individual skills they can also build a good chemistry among other team members. One of the reasons why lacrosse is very beneficial to young players is the fact that even practices are fun. The games we are going to discuss in this article are still competitive, even if they come with a bit of fun. There are goalie and offensive drills, too.
1 – Save Game
This game is specifically intended to enhance and improve the skills of the team’s goalie, particularly his shot-blocking ability. The goalie needs to stand in front of the goal and in position. Through the coach’s signal, one offensive player will run up and take a shot, followed by another one in succession. The shots have to be fired fifteen feet away. The goalie’s objective is to block all shots. Obviously, the winning goalie is the one who gives up the fewest goals in the game.
2 – Pass Accuracy
Every player and position in lacrosse needs to learn how to pass the ball accurately. In order to test everyone, place ten balls behind the net. The team has to be divided into two lines wherein the lines will be situated at the top of the box. On the coach’s signal, a player from each line will run behind the net and then scoop the ball up. The next player in line will then run towards the net. The first player will hit the running player with a pass and have him catch it, thereby establishing a scoring chance. The team (line) with the most goals or points through accurate passes wins.
3 – Pinwheel
In the pinwheel game, the players will be subjected to training in order to improve their catching ability, particularly using all sorts of angles and directions. Three players need to stand in a tight bunch while their backs are against each other. In this stationary position, another four players will be running around the cluster with lacrosse sticks and balls with them. As they run around, they need to throw the ball in the direction of the three players in the middle. When a pass is dropped, the player who dropped it will be eliminated from the circle. The last man standing without a drop wins.
4 – Ground Ball
The last fun game for your lacrosse practice is called the ground ball game. This time, the focus of improvement is foot speed and the players’ ability to scoop ball off the ground without missing a beat or momentum. Two players will need to line up next to each other. The coach will be throwing the ball over the heads of the players and down to the field. When the ball is released, the players will have to sprint to the ball’s direction while attempting to outrun each other. The first player to get the ball will be on offense. That player will turn around and run with the ball while making sure it won’t get knocked off. The player will then get close to the coach and will pass the ball to him, thereby successfully finishing the game.
